Soi! is a photo-quest app. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: there is no account, your photos stay on your phone, and we don’t sell data or track you.
What Soi! uses
| Information | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Precise location (optional, only if you allow it) | To find your city and time missions to the sunlight and weather where you are | Apple’s location service turns it into a city name, and Open-Meteo (a weather service) gets the weather for it. The last city is saved on your phone. It is not linked to you. |
| Photos you take for a quest | Your montage and album | Stored on your phone only. If you share a quest, the photos are sent straight to your partner’s phone. |
| Your display name (from Soi! 1.1 you choose it before pairing; earlier versions always use “Traveler”) | Shown to the person you share a quest with, and to phones nearby while you wait for a friend | Sent to their phone over the nearby connection. While you wait for a friend, it is also broadcast unencrypted to phones close by. |
| Quest name (Soi! 1.1 and later) | Lets people close by see your quest and ask to join | Broadcast unencrypted to phones close by while you wait for a friend. It is not sent to us. |
| Mission reactions, preferences, block list | Remembering your choices | Your phone only |
| Soi! Plus status (whether you have it) | Turning paid features on | Your phone only. Apple handles the purchase itself. |
Soi! has no advertising and no analytics. It does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Permissions
- Camera to take your quest photos.
- Location (optional, while using the app) to find your city, for golden hour timing and for weather. Soi! works without it.
- Local network / Bluetooth to pair with a friend’s phone nearby and, from Soi! 1.1, to find quests close by if you turn on nearby quest invites. Connections are encrypted and both people must accept. Your name shown before pairing (and, from Soi! 1.1, your quest name) is not encrypted.
- Photos (add only) to save your collage to your library when you tap Save.
Shared quests
Two people can share one quest. Photos either person takes appear on both phones. Photos already on your partner’s phone stay there if you leave. If a future version adds cloud sync, this policy will be updated first and sync will only run with a signed-in user.
Nearby quest invites (Soi! 1.1 and later) are off until you turn them on in Me → Safety & privacy. With them on, while Soi! is open, you get a pop-up when someone close by is waiting for a friend, showing their name and quest name. Your phone doesn’t reveal anything about you just by looking. When you use Team up, your name and quest name can be seen by phones close by, whether or not your own invites are on. Asking to join still needs the host’s approval.
Soi! Plus purchases
Soi! Plus, available from Soi! 1.1, is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment, so we never see your card details, name or Apple Account. The app only asks the App Store what your Apple Account has bought, to know which features to turn on. That answer stays on your phone and is not sent to us.
Apple’s own privacy policy covers the purchase. You can cancel a subscription in your Apple Account settings, and refunds are handled by Apple. Deleting the app or using Delete my data does not cancel a subscription.
Report, block and delete
- Report someone in a shared quest from Team up → Report or block. We review reports within 24 hours and act on abusive content.
- Block someone from the same screen. This ends the shared quest, stops them from joining you again and, from Soi! 1.1, hides their nearby invites. You can unblock on the Me tab.
- Delete my data on the Me tab erases your photos, montages, stamps, preferences and quest progress from your phone. Deleting the app also removes everything stored on your phone.
Third-party services
Soi! asks Open-Meteo for the weather at your coordinates. Apple turns your location into a city name and handles Soi! Plus purchases. Soi! also includes Google Firebase libraries; Soi! does not use them to store your photos, name or any account data.
Children
Soi! is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date above and, for meaningful changes, tell you in the app.
